Vine to Bar Chocolate Featured on Food Network
Meet the Gut-Friendly, Sustainable Chocolate Revolutionizing the Wine Industry
We're thrilled to share that Vine to Bar was recently featured on Food Network's Healthy Eats, in an article exploring how our chocolate turns upcycled Chardonnay grapes into a prebiotic-rich, better-for-you treat.
Writer Laura Denby dug into the story behind WellVine™, our patented ingredient made from the seeds, skins, and stems left over after Chardonnay grapes are pressed for wine — material that's typically discarded or composted. Instead, that "whole-grape" byproduct is dried, milled, and blended into rich dark chocolate, delivering prebiotic fiber, polyphenols, and antioxidants without any added sugar (since the sugar gets pressed out along with the juice).
The piece also traces the decade-plus of research behind Vine to Bar, including our collaboration with the USDA and scientists at UC Davis, and features insights from co-founder Barbara Banke and Scientific Advisor Dr. Harold Schmitz on why Chardonnay pomace turned out to be the perfect match for chocolate.
"The idea for creating a raw ingredient from the by-product of winemaking was really inspired by our desire to create a more sustainable wine industry. Wine making is essentially an agricultural endeavor, and as farmers, we strive to utilize the whole grape." — Barbara Banke, Proprietor, Jackson Family Wines
"Here was a discovery, totally unanticipated, that the healthy stuff we added to chocolate actually made the dark chocolate taste even better." — Dr. Harold Schmitz, Senior Scholar at UC Davis, Scientific Advisor for Vine to Bar
Vine to Bar is now available nationwide at major retailers like Publix, in flavors including Almonds and Himalayan Pink Salt, Tart Cherry and Cocoa Nibs, and our True Dark Dark Chocolate Bar.
